See; I don't actually get grades until later this week, so, who knows if I pass French or not? Because I sure as hell don't.

But, let's look at what I'm doing come the new year, shall we?

Work: So, M, the pharmacy manager has done something wonderful. Not only am I working either 10-6 or 9-5, but I'm also only working M-F. Meaning, Saturdays are mine again! Meaning, I can do things with AJ, and around the house and don't have to worry about babysitting for him, or anything else!

This is something that has been two years in the making. This schedule actually starts Monday, as in tomorrow, so we'll see how well it goes.

Gradschool: So, I applied to three: Ole Miss, WMU, and GSU. Ole Miss, I'll hear something from them in January I believe, but the rest I won't hear about until March or April. So, who knows. It probably all depends on if I pass French.

Writing: I'm participating in two writing challenges starting the beginning of the year. One is [community profile] inkingitout the other is [community profile] getyourwordsout! The first is a word challenge, the second is a day challenge. I need something to keep me consistent.

Books: I'm also thinking of getting back into BookMooch. I have some books from school that I want to get rid of and this seems like the best way, since I really have some books I want. But, I'm looking at books to own, so if you have something I should own, let me know.

That's about all from here, though. <3 I've missed you all.

Edit: Spoke too soon. Fuck my life. I didn't pass French, and that means no degree.

Since one of my goals for the year is to read more, I'm going to keep track. This list will include audio books that I've listened to, graphic novels and books I've read - digital or otherwise. It will not include all the fic.

So, I have a list of books to read! I'm putting them up here. Give me reccs! I haven't read any of them yet, though I've read a couple of the authors:

The Graveyard Book Neil Gaiman
The Woman in Black Susan Hill

Insurgent Veronica Roth
The Mammoth Book of Comic Fantasy Many
The Hunter's Moon O.R. Melling
The Crouching Dragon Len Lamensdorf
The Lightning Thief Rick Riordan

So, I love Gaiman. A lot. Roth? OMG I loved Divergent. I love it so damned much. I'm kinda excited to read the second book.

Anyone have any reccs based on those? I'm always looking for new stuff to read. Give me more?

Alright, so let me lay this out:

I will read just about anything. I like a lot of different things. I tend to read more fantasy than anything else, but will read just about any fiction. I've gotten into a lot of YA lately and seem to be churning my way through that. Nonfiction I'm very particular on and will read what I want there.

What I want is a list of books/series that you my dear readers think that I should look into. Give me a To Be Read pile. I don't really have one.

Current out from the library )

So, that's what I have out right now.

I have read Mercedes Lackey - pretty much everything, really and don't really care for Anne McCaffrey. But, give me books. Again, I'll read just about anything and have plans to be buying the books of a few people I know that are now published. (Katey, looking at you, dude!)

*Just finished this one like... ten minutes ago. It's a good, solid, book and I think a lot of people would enjoy it. There's a wizard society that lives amongst us and they hold tournaments using those born with 'warrior stones' to fight their battles. I found it interesting and will be getting the third book The Dragon Heir when I can.

Recently, my daughter turned eleven.

With this turning of age (and even before) she's been complaining about the lack of books to read. She's read most of my fiction (save the romance novels) and that she hasn't, she just isn't interested in.

I don't blame her. There are a lot of things that I just can't be bothered to read because they don't interest me.

However, with her growing interest in vampires, and some of the creepier things in life, I've been working on getting her books that fit this new interest.

To be honest, Stephen King is on that list, but I want to not exactly ease her into him, but hopefully interest her in some classic books that might show where King came from.

To this end, I've been using BookMooch.com to nefarious purposes.

Right now on my wishlist, I've included the Vampire Academy books - which are YA, poplit, but without the creepy overtones of Twilight. (She's not allowed to read Twilight yet. Not until we have another long talk about 'healthy' relationships and how Bella/Edward is not healthy.) But, I'm waiting on Bram Stoker's Dracula to arrive, and yes, she'll be reading that. I think she's smart enough to handle it. I'm trying to find her some Poe, and Gaiman (while not horror, he twists reality in a way that I think she'll like.) and maybe a few others.

I'm trying to convince her that she'll like Jane Eyre. Because it's an interesting story, whether she realizes it enough. Also, Frankenstein is on that list. Because that's just one of the necessities.

Anyone have any other suggestions? I'd prefer classic literature, rather than modern, but any suggestions are certainly welcome.

Right now, she's into vampires and mysteries. She doesn't like police procedural stories but does like fantasy.

Anyone have any suggestions?

More for me than anyone else, but sometimes I like to see what I've been downloading to read, and having it in a post actually helps, believe it or not.... Keep in mind these are all e-books and free from Amazon. I haven't paid anything for any of these.

The Books, in Alphabetical order )

Wow. That's a lot... I didn't realize it. There's some definite trends there, though. Fairy Tales, Ghost Stories... Yeah, that's the way I roll.

*These are the ones I've read completely.

I want to direct people here.

It's basically Survivor for books. Now, I want to read these books. Who's with me?
