Bullying and Cyberstalking

Yesterday, this account was contacted by someone who has been following me from site to site and has attempted to blacken my name at several places on the wide, wide internet.
I know this person in real life, and once considered them a friend. I know now that was a mistake on my part and I have attempted to sever all contact with them, but they have continued into what I consider harassment.
Yes, I am frightened. For my safety, for my children's safety, and for my other friends as well.
They have threatened me with calling Child Protective Services (which, due to past mistakes I made, and several other issues is very triggering, and more than a little cruel, and this person knows it) and have stated that my children would be better off with their crack-addicted father (my ex-husband) than in my care. They have posted my full real name and the county of my residence on their journal. They have also posted my children's names on their journal.
This is bullying. The fact that they have found my ex-husband and I didn't know where he was is beyond creepy and more than a little stalkerish.
Honestly, they are very invested in this relationship.
I debated for a long time about posting this, but the escalation has required that I do something. I could not keep silent, and allow them to continue as they have. I'm not going to be driven off my chosen areas of 'residence' on the internet, because they cannot understand 'please never contact me again'.
This is not a problem that police are well versed in. Unfortunately. I will be speaking to them on Monday, when I can take all of my evidence to them.
I hope that as the digital age continues, the police and other law enforcement will be able to handle cases such as this.

And before the question is asked: The person doing this is a woman. It is not a man. There were no intimate relations. We were merely friends and room mates.
