Okay, gonna rant about writing
Please, for the love of god, goddess, or divine cheese, stop defending something that no one is talking about.
If I send you crit, it's because I enjoyed your writing enough to want it to improve. I don't leave crit for writing I just don't like. Only if I like it. If I'm only going to squee, I leave crit. Seriously.
So, when I crit a paragraph that is unwieldy, run-on, and some poor word choices (things that I am also guilty of), it has nothing to do with the polyamory that is happening in that paragraph.
I enjoyed it. It takes something very well written for me to read polyamory. It's one of those "not my thing". However, your story drew me in, made me care, and I was interested in where it was going.
Yes, it is a knee-jerk reaction to defend your writing. But defend the mechanics I'm pointing out - and make no mistake it was the mechanics, not the content - not something that I, really, had no comment on. In fact, if you had continued reading, I flat out said "I normally don't read polyamory, but this is so well written that I have really enjoyed it."
That was the reason the one paragraph stood out. If you had said "It was a stylistic choice" I would have said "Oh. Hm. can you tell me why?" Instead, I got a three paragraph screaming fit about how I was prejudiced against polyamory and possibly a homophobe.
Just... whatever.
I'm suddenly remembering why I stopped reviewing and critting things for a lot of people. Sigh.
