Ideas
Normally, I don't talk about how I get ideas. See, I don't get ideas gradually. I get them in a full on flash. I'll get a fully formed scene, or words scrolling across my eyes like I'm writing them on a screen.
These days, I'm getting so many conflicting ideas, that I'm trying to coalesce some of them into something that will make some sort of sense.
I'm not having much luck with doing that, so this is probably going to be a rambling post.
1. Rissa: I have wanted, for a while, to rework something that happened... god seven years ago now? (E, can you believe it's been that long?!) It was originally RP through an IM program, but honestly, I want to redo it, because the main idea behind it was fun, even if it got so convoluted that it made my brain hurt.
However, looking at all the character descripts I've done for it, the idea just isn't coming. I'm not sure why. Maybe it needs more time to ferment, maybe it needs a good swift kick in the pants. I'm just not sure. I think I'm rather daunted with the idea and how to treat some of the themes in the story with respect.
2. Steam-punk: For reasons known only to my brain, it wants to get into some steam-punk. I'm not even sure if that's the correct term for it. Yes, there would be Victorian fashions. There would be sky-pirates. Magic would be prevalent. So would some of the illnesses that we take for granted can be cured today.
There would also be some technology. Nothing major, but things to allow people to communicate over distances - some of that would be magic, some would be technology. But, honestly, I'm pretty sure I don't know the genre, but it's beginning to sit up and take root in my mind.
3. Secret Society: I've always loved the idea of secret societies in the modern world. Nothing like the Masons, or the Illuminati. (Partially because I think them rather overdone.) But something much closer to... Hmm. The Adept Books by Katherine Hurtz and Deborah Harris probably come closest. I don't want to copy what they do, and make it far more wide spread, but, yes, secret society.
However, it would also be religion based, and some of that would be sensitive to some people. I know I could do the research into it and actually get it done, but I'm still a bit wary of touching it and having people up in arms about it.
Though, that goes back to #1 as well. Touching on religion in my fiction brings up uncomfortable connotations for me. (That and I'm always worried about offending people, with my own prejudices that might come across in my writing.)
So that's my writing ideas right now. Now for a challenge update.
- Cross Stitch: I'm still working on the wolf. It's filled in, even a bit more than what the picture shows. It's a bit slow going because it really is filling in the blanks.
- Knitting: Last night, I managed to drop like three stitches messing around with it. But, I think I fixed that this morning. It's measuring in at 9 3/4in/24.765cm. I usually work on it while the Roomie and I RP, when it becomes too dark to cross stitch. Or, if we're downstairs. Knitting is far more portable.
For now, I think I'm going to go work on some more character descriptions and see what plot really comes out and prods me in the head. For now, it's the best I can do.

Orson Scott Card wrote an interesting treatise on religion in SFF, and I think he makes some good points.
