December Orig Fic Bingo #4
Title: A Thief
Prompt: Mistaken Identity
Rating: PG
Summary/Warnings: Backstory again
“No. Really. I’m not whoever you think I am. My name is Jenny Huang, and I’m from California.” The small Chinese girl struggled against the handcuffs currently keeping her hands behind her back. The two large men on either side of her ignored the protests. She didn’t dare try to get away. Even with all her martial art training, she didn’t think she could break their grips without breaking herself.
The two stoic men put her in a cell, but didn’t remove the handcuffs. Jenny stumbled and then sat down on the bunk. She tried to figure out just why she was here. Jenny struggled against the cuffs. There were some advantages to being a martial artist, a gymnast… and a thief.
Unfortunately, even after some shimmying around, Jenny couldn’t find her lock picks. These guys weren’t cops, she knew that much. Not cops, not government, and not official in any way. Something said that they were something different.
She tried to go over her jobs in her mind. She got them, mostly, from her boss. He’d never put her into a situation she would get busted for it by someone outside the law. That was bad for business. So, that eliminated all but three jobs.
She could knock out two. They’d been small time, unworthy jobs. One had been a simple grab from a convenience store that charged fifteen bucks to cash a check. Jenny had met a woman ten dollars short for her rent because they were the only place that cashed government checks. That had netted an extra hundred bucks for the poor woman, but nothing more. The other job had been taking back a friend’s stuff from her boyfriend. Not exactly high profile work, but Jenny hadn’t minded. They were for good causes. Her boss wouldn’t have objected either.
That left one. But that had been something so simple that she hadn’t thought about it in weeks. She’d grabbed a bit of jewelry from an auction house that had been originally stolen from some refugees in Africa. After returning the jewelry – a tiny delicate bracelet – she’d let it go.
So what the hell was going on?
Standing up, she shimmied a little and then jumped. The cuffs slipped right under her feet and her hands ended up in front of her. Well, at least she had a bit more maneuverability now. She looked around the cell. There had to be a way out of here.
The cell door jerked open and she turned toward it, ready to fight if she needed to.
“Prisoner will –“
“Inugo?” Jenny said in shock. She recognized the dark hair and the tattoo on his cheek that wound around his neck and then under his shirt. She’d licked it more than once. “Inugo, what the hell is going on?”
The man’s head jerked up and stared at her. His dark green eyes widened in shock. “Jenny!” He rushed forward and fumbled with the keys to get her cuffs off. “Crap. When they said they had someone in here, I never thought it was you.”
Jenny rubbed her wrists as soon as the cuffs were off and then wrapped her arms around his neck. “What’s going on?”
“We’re looking for someone who might have stolen a necklace.”
Jenny pulled back and scowled at him. “Do I look like a thief?”
