Title: Traveling
Prompt: Caught in the Rain
Rating: G
Content Note/Warnings: Jeni/Bear
Jeni pulled the cloak up over her head. The skies had turned an ominous grey that didn’t so much as threaten rain as hold clouds back until the exact right moment to dump all the water they carried on the small group that was working their way along the road.
She looked up, wondering if they’d make the night’s lodgings before the sky opened up.
“Bear?” Jeni asked, pulling the cloak tighter around her. She was traveling by horseback, while the large wolf-man was walking just ahead of her. “Where are we going?”
He looked over his shoulder and she couldn’t help but smile. She’d been asking the same question for the last three days. They’d left the Royal Castle to the cheers of most of Bear’s division. He had refused to tell her anything about where they were going.
So, every few hours, she’d ask yet again. He never answered. This time he didn’t even grunt at her. He just flicked an ear and continued down the road.
This time, however, she was tired of waiting. Jeni thought she’d been rather patient, and hadn’t thrown a fit about not knowing where they were going. (She’d suspected, at first, that Bear had done this to get her away from the one officer trainee that seemed to have taken an interest in her.)
Jeni slipped out of the saddle and landed with a soft whump. Her stuffed bear – she’d refused to leave it behind – was strapped to her back. “Bear, I’m not going any further unless you tell me where we’re going.” She crossed her arms and raised her chin.
It’d worked on the servants back on the Hakkun estate.
But it didn’t work on Bear, who simply scooped her up, put her back on the horse and continued walking.
She huffed out an annoyed breath. Her arms crossed over her chest, she shrugged deeper into her cloak.
Right then, the rain started. Jeni just huffed out a breath.
… Of course.
