Meme time! #NaNoWriMo

Stolen shamelessly from [personal profile] jackalibis

Since I still feel like hell, I'm going to do a quick NaNo meme to make myself feel better. It probably won't work, but I'm okay with that.

-- WRITING TECHNOLOGY --
This year, as I work on NaNo, I'll be using my shiny laptop. I bought it back in April, I believe. It's still puttering along really well, and honestly, I still love it.

Software wise, I'm going to be changing things this year. Normally, I use OpenOffice. Not saying I don't still like it, because I do, but I've gone back to MS Word. It gives me a few more options that OO doesn't have and makes things a bit smoother for me.

I'm also using this year, something called StoryBook. This is letting me get all my character profiles together without having to search a file, plus it lets me have all my place notes in one place, a single click away. Also, it lets you plot scenes and the like out, but I'm not going to be using that feature just yet. I'm not sure I like how it works, so other things might work better for me.

One other thing I'm using is good old fashioned drawing paper and pencil. Why? Because there are some maps that need to be hand drawn, because they are just too big to be put on the computer in any size that would do me any good. So, those will go up on my walls probably the day before Halloween.

Frankly, I've got everything organized, I'm just waiting on November.

-- WRITING LOCATIONS --
About the only place I'll be writing will be in my room. It's the easiest place for me to set up, settle in and start working.

I've finally figured out that as long as I have a desk to use at home, I get a lot more writing done. I don't write well in public. I might go to one of the write-ins, since there might actually be some just over in Mason (which is really close) but I'm not holding my breath.

Frankly, I just cannot justify leaving the kids at home and going off to work for a couple of hours when I write just as well, if not better, at home.

-- SURVIVAL TOOLS --
In order of importance: solitude, music, water.

No, really, that's all I need. If I get hungry, then that's a signal to take a break. Mostly, I just want to keep my hydration up - since that helps me a ton - and keep my bedroom door closed, because that's the signal that genius is occurring. (I need to get me a wood plaque that says that, for my door.)

However, when I really need to rest my brain, I'm going to need books, video games and RP. Both live with the roomie, and online. (I play at LJ.)

Also! I will have my AIM on (probably set to invisible). If I take a while to respond, it's not that I don't want to talk, it's that the muse has grabbed me by the short hairs and is dragging me along for the ride. (If you want to talk, my AIM is ladyfoxstone)

-- WRITING SESSIONS --

Most of my writing will probably take place after the kids are off to school. If I can get enough words out, then I'll probably take the afternoon/evening/weekends off, just because trying to write around kids is impossible. Someone always needs Mommy.

Now, after bed, I might get some words in, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm really counting on that 11am-2pm time to get most of my words out. (I say 11, because I am notorious for going back to bed and that's usually about the time I wake up again. And the other end of that is usually when the roomie and I start live RP. I'm declaring that NaNo time, so any words outside of that? Are extra padding that I might end up needing!)

And there is more than you ever will need to know about Cat's NaNoing.

Seriously, is it November yet?
