Lonely Profession...
I've set myself up for not exactly failure, but definitely for loneliness and not quite getting what I need.
See; y'all know I write. I write a lot. I have, currently, four stories that I've edited until my eyes have crossed. Now, I need someone Not Me to look at them, and I'm having a hard time finding anyone, despite the number of writing comms and stuff that I'm in. Sometimes, that's okay. I don't need someone coming right behind me and editing, but with these four, I'm done? I can't figure out if they're okay to go out, or if I should do something else? I just don't know.
So, I'm keeping a running list of things that need edited and just looking for someone who has the time/wherewithal/want to edit them.
But right now, the not having a set editor is making me bummed. All my writing groups are like "Yeah! I sent chapter 25 off to the beta readers!" And that's great! I'm glad they have that. I... don't. I want someone with whom I regularly exchange fic and do reading sessions. But I, apparently, can't find that.
Anyway, the four I have right now:
- Dragon Harem 56k, Jin-Yu Huang is the shadow leader of her clan, she has to find out why shipments are disappearing and her people are dying. Oh, and she's part of a mystical thing called the 'Dragon Harem.' It explores home, and what is family.
- Steampunk 76k; magic and dirigibles, and a lady, and ancient curses. Lady Felicity was adopted as a baby. She knew that. But she had her father and her uncle, and her guard, a boy named Kevin. All was going well, until her uncle, never well, fell deathly ill. When she found out it was a curse, she decided to find a way to lift it no matter where that took her. Explores family, love, and societal expectations.
- Fairies and Necromancy 50k, old NaNo. A teenager finds out fairies, werewolves, and several other things are real, oh, and now they're being hunted.
- Spirit Speaker 3300, a Roma woman is the pride of her clan, and gets tangled up with a werewolf.
These four need editing. In the next few months, I'm going to have "Kalla's Wedding" and possibly "Slayers" ready to go. I don't know. Maybe even "Fae Hunter". I haven't decided what to do with the longer pieces as of yet. Longer pieces just don't belong up on Patreon, but I don't have a place for them either. I could start shopping them around, but I'm not sure where, and really don't even know how to look anymore. It's been a long time since I shopped anything around.
Anyone know where to look to send out shorter pieces? Or hell, even longer ones? I haven't a clue where to shop stories anymore.

Also, the Submission Grinder might be helpful. It's like a free version of Duotrope. You can search for places that are open to submissions by genre, word length, etc.
I'm not sure where to find a critique partner, though.

I didn't know about Submission Grinder! That will be one I poke about as I try to find places for some of my shorter fiction.
The critique partner thing is hard. I have several friends who would do it but are just too busy. I respect that, but it does make for sad making. I trust their opinions, and want to know what more they think of the manuscripts, but I won't force them or guilt them into helping.
I've signed up for several "critique partner matchups" at various places, just because I need that feedback to work on my writing. None of them are assigning partners as of yet, so we'll see.
