Summary/Warnings: Sexual themes. Jenny/Inugo story

Sweat coated her skin. Her breath caught in her throat, constricting her chest almost painfully.

Colors coated her world in hues that weren’t natural. Goose pimples rose on her skin. The gentle breeze chilled her almost to the bone.

Her eyes stared upward, trying to hold onto the earth and not fall off into the colors threatening to take her breath away even further. Shivering, Jenny licked her dry lips, wanting nothing but to fall into that world of explosions.

She could hear crowds cheering. Their chants and appreciation for the celebration floated around her, adding to the sensory overload that she couldn’t quite hold back.

Her mind slid into a white noise world where nothing penetrated, out of self-defense. Words slipped past her lips, but she wasn’t sure if they were real, or if they were hallucinations of a mind overwhelmed by sensation.

Her muscles twitched in involuntary convulsions. Her consciousness floated somewhere above. It looked down on her and just shook its head, wondering what she was doing and if this was really necessary. It couldn’t, possibly, be healthy for her.

From somewhere above came the hiss-crackle of fireworks. The colors cascaded in through the fluttering curtains, bringing the sharp smell of gunpowder and chemicals.

Her body shuddered as the curtains fluttered as the wind swirled into the room. Outside people cheered and clapped, watching the display over their heads. Inside, Jenny just took their cheers to mean that they were seeing something worth their time.

Then came the grand finale, sounding like the world was collapsing around her. It shook the building and drowned out the cheers of those below the window. Her curtains billowed, catching on a chair and staying there to flutter in the breeze.

Her muscles stopped their twitching and she blinked dry eyes, finally able to start thinking about sucking in the oxygen her lungs so desperately needed. Fingers cramped from holding on so tightly finally straightened.

Weight settled above her and a small smile twitched her lips – about the only movement she was capable of. Skin slid against hers and she could hear harsh pants in her ear, and feel the breath against her skin.

The fireworks inside had been better, she decided.

“I love you,” Inugo panted in her hair.

“Je t’aime.” Jenny murmured, listening to the jazz band once again start playing for those there to celebrate Mardi Gras.
