Title: Patrol
Prompt: Caught in the rain
Rating: G
Content Note/Warnings: Takes place in my NaNo universe
Ryuusuke shook the water out of his eyes. His hair clung to his face. The rain came down in sheets, soaking the patrol and obscuring the path they were following. Luckily all of them knew the way by rote.
He glanced ahead at the man taking point and then looked at the woman beside him.
She glared up at him through dripping bangs. He just smirked. She hadn’t had to come on the patrol – in fact, he’d told her to stay home with her sister and enjoy a night off. He was the Commander and fully capable of leading a patrol all by himself.
Miyu, as beautiful as she was and as much as he loved her, was a damned stubborn woman when she wanted to be.
He grunted when her small foot connected with his shin.
Apparently, his wife didn’t find the rain as amusing as he did.
“Commander?”
The call from the front drew his mind away from how beautiful he thought his wife was and just how much he was going to enjoy helping her warm up when they got home. “What is it?”
His voice was calm, cool, the consummate commander. It was probably why Miyu had come along. She claimed that his ability to completely shut off his emotions and simply handle a situation without letting them dictate how he acted intimidated the division.
Of course it did. That was why he did it!
Luckily, it worked on the nobles of the Inner Sanctuaries as well. It was why Riku kept threatening to make him Kyrun – basically head noble of the Inner Sanctuaries, answerable to only the King. Ryuusuke threatened to kick Riku out of his bed if he did such a thing.
“There’s a fire up ahead.”
The entire patrol stopped. Ryuusuke pushed his way to the front and peered through the screen of rain blinding him. He sent two others off to circle around the edges of the camp, just in case.
He went to take a step forward, but Miyu grabbed the back of his shirt and pulled. Ryuusuke stumbled back and barely missed taking an arrow to the face. He reached for his sword as did the patrol.
“What would you do without me?” Miyu had her sword drawn and flicked hand signals at the patrol, sending them to surround the camp.
Ryuusuke didn’t bother to answer.
