Stagnation

Having just had a very interesting conversation with someone, I thought I'd write my thoughts here.

Over on Livejournal, I've written something for an RP that, because of the fandom characters involved is wrong and just horrible. On some level I know this.

She asked me why when I said I had to write it. There are many reasons that I have to.

However they all boil down to one thing: To see if I can. Writing has a bad tendency to stagnate if you don't stretch it every once in a while. So, I want to write this, to see if I can keep the characterisation real, and make it make sense.

I want to stretch my writing wings, and see if I can make people believe that these are the characters I say they are.

The fact that it's also fun messing with character's heads is completely secondary.

You make me feel guilty about my writing :O Because, y'know, I only occasionally seem to dust it off these days, and that's generally for the purposes of throwing things at Teva (although, sidebar: J went and wrote a Teva scene! With bees! *dies of awesome*) or, um, well... throwing things at Teva.

I have ideas still, but they just kinda sit in my head and decompose or develop verdigris and/or patina because I utterly fail at the actual writing part of claiming to be a writer.

Also: because I want to is a perfectly valid reason for writing things. It might make someone else's brain melt, but that's why Rule 34 exists.
